The Gate Of Reciprocity

World A dying world within the NOS system orbiting a star that dims further every year. Plants evolved blood-red and black coloring to absorb maximum light from near darkness — but even that is no longer enough. Famine. Species extinction. Despair. The ground is soft and strange underfoot. The sky a deep oppressive crimson. Almost no light reaches the surface.

Veil The unexpected opposite of a world of near-total darkness is overwhelming white light — blinding, sourceless, total. A world evolved entirely for near darkness placed inside something with too much light to see anything at all. Vision becomes useless in the opposite direction. The brightness does not hurt exactly — it erases. Everything beyond arm's length is indistinguishable from everything else.

Gate The Gate of Reciprocity demands the diminishment of self-protection as the condition of passage. To give freely from whatever remains — not because return is guaranteed, not because it is safe — and to receive in kind without deflecting what comes back, is a Solbreth requirement. What is given from genuine abundance returns multiplied. The gate does not open for the one who has sacrificed strategically. It opens for the one who has given sincerely.

Beings The Delaagaanz (deh-LAH-gaanz). Upon entrance into the veil, they manifest automatically — impossibly tall and thin, royal in bearing, golden-colored with translucent skin through which their inner workings are faintly visible, robed in silk, voices like liquid velvet. They do not threaten or accuse. They present options. With complete calm and absolute clarity they lay out the full weight of every possible choice — including the cascading repercussions of actions that appear harmless, and the full cost of inaction. They will not say which choice is correct. They will ensure the full weight of every option is understood before any choice is made. The greater good is their constant reference point. They are not cruel. They are not kind. They are precise.

Challenge The Delaagaanz stand between the entrance to the veil and the gate itself — and they do not allow passage to any who have not fully reckoned with the cost of what they are about to give and what they are about to receive. The gate opens when both halves of the exchange are entered into sincerely — the giving and the receiving, with nothing withheld on either side.
